A bit about the Medical Committee from the Norwin Band Handbook:
The medical committee serves to provide emergency medical services to members of
the Norwin Band. The medical policy below aims to ensure the health and safety of all
members of the Norwin high school marching band during rehearsals, performances,
and other related activities
■ Medical Personnel:
o Trained medical personnel, such as a registered nurse or qualified first aid
provider, will be present at all marching band performances, and some
rehearsals
o Medical personnel will assess injuries, provide first aid, and determine the need
for further medical attention.
o Medical personnel follow Norwin School District Policy 210 regarding use of
medication.

■ Management of Medical Conditions:
o All band members must submit a completed medical form at the beginning of
each marching band season providing relevant medical history, allergies,
medications, and emergency contact information.
o Band members with pre-existing medical conditions must inform the band
director and medical personnel. Individualized plans will be developed to
manage these conditions during rehearsals and performances.
■ Emergency Procedures:
o In the event of a medical emergency, staff will initiate emergency protocols,
including contacting emergency services and notifying parents/guardians.
o Parents/guardians will be promptly informed of any medical incidents involving
their child.
Heartbeat Heroes
Hello! My name is Shoby Fronczek and I am a Senior Girl Scout, a Norwin high school student, and a member of the colorguard and concert band. My Girl Scout Gold Award Project: Heartbeat Heroes began as a measure to ensure health and safety of the marching band members and grew into a project to best serve the marching band and the community during time on the Norwin campus. Heartbeat Heroes’ primary goal became to provide a public access box with AED on the Norwin campus (located on
band triage). Additionally, my goal was to provide lifesaving education to the band community through CPR sessions and heat preparation for the newest members. On this resource site, you will find educational materials that were reviewed at different
points in the project implementation. These materials are a great reference for marching band season preparation and reminders if an emergency arises.
